The following courses are offered by S&S Training, Inc. If needed, classes can be
tailored to your specific needs. We teach small or large groups.
Journeyman Gas Fitter
The course prepares the student to take the Maryland State Journeyman Gas Fitter
Examination or the Baltimore County Journeyman Gas Fitter Examination. The course
covers:
1. The Fundamentals of Combustion
2. Pipe sizing for adequate gas flow
3. Adjustment of appliances
4. Venting of Category I Gas Appliances
5. The 2 lb. System (Elevated Pressure)
Master Gas Fitter
The course prepares the student to take the Maryland State Master Gas Fitter
Examination or the Baltimore County Master
Gas Fitter Examination. The course covers:
1. A Review of Journeyman Gas Fitter
2. Conversion Burner Installation
2 lb. Course (Elevated Pressure)
The course can be taken separately when needed. It covers the installation of the 2 lb.
System.
Venting of Gas Appliances
The course can be taken separately when needed. It covers the venting of Category I
Appliances (those appliances vented into a chimney).
Introduction to Natural Gas
The course covers a brief overview of pipe sizing, clocking a gas meter, testing for leaks
and identifying hazardous conditions.
Carbon Monoxide
The course looks at CO from a service technicians point of view. What is CO? How is it
formed? Hazardous conditions that may cause CO.
Hazardous Conditions
The course covers the identification of hazardous conditions such as a blocked
chimney, cracked heat exchanger etc.
Safety Pilots
The course covers the identification and operation of safety pilots.
Re-Lite Appliances
The course covers the re-lighting of gas appliances when they have been turned off for
repair work.
Combustible Gas Indicator
The course covers what the readings mean. What is % Gas, What is % LEL?
Miscellaneous Information
Miscellaneous information about Natural Gas such as BTU Value, Specific Gravity,
Ignition Point etc.
